Just wondering how to install a fuel filter on a 97 sunfire gt.Step by step if some one could help me out .thanks
if you don't know where the filter is, go under the car and its right above the rear axle, fairly easy to see. then first off you need to get the right tools for the snap fitting side, all you need is some common fuel line tools and you should be able to get a set of different sized ones at your local parts store for pretty cheap. next you have to pull the filter out of its sheet metal harness , this will drop it down to make it easier to work with, be careful though, you don't want to pull it down too far and kink a fuel line...that gets to be a pain in the ass if that happens, next you need some line wrenches, you can get away with your standard combination wrenches, but the line wrenches give a better grip. Loosen up the bolt style fitting side first and remove the line, you may have to tug on it a bit to get it to pop out, after that line is removed insert the fuel line tool into the other end and play with it until you feel it click, you should then be able to pull the line out with ease. If the filter has been on there for a long time, you may have some trouble pulling the fittings out due to rust and corrosion, normally some WD-40 or some PB plaster (rust penetrant) will do the trick and make you life a lot easier... and for reinstall just push the clip side in and then reinsert the screw in side and tighten up fairly snug, you don't want to over tighten it and wreck the threads, otherwise you should be alright, overall tis a pretty easy job.
97 RS CAVY in production...
The best beginning is a cheap beginning, and work from there...
As stated above thats all true^^^^^^^^^^^^
i will clear it up for you thow
1,either crawl under, jack up car and support with jack stands
2,get your self a nice set of fuel line disconnecting tools
3,Pull the filter out of the holder
4,use a brake wrench(can't think of the name right now)to loosen the nut, with this wrench you won't have to worry about stripping the nut
5 take your fuel disconnect tool(witch ever one you bought the cheap plastic set are the nice looking small clamp set and put her in there and keep pulling on the one end well pushing the tool in
6 just reverse all the steps(IE) screw the new pump connect the fitting put in holder and then turn the key on and check for leaks.
now its a older jay so chances are it will be rusted but some good spray will fix that
if i had pics i would post them
hope this helps
I don't know what the fuel line tools look like thats whereIam getting confused.
