Is it normal for these 2200s to smoke for days on end after an oil change? Dumb enough, I took my 02 Sunfire in to Wal-Mart for a Mobil 1 synthetic oil change on Sunday since they were the only ones open, and after taking it home, a moderate amount of smoke and burning oil smell was coming from the right side of the engine compartment, near the oil filter. All looks clean back there, but some spillage could have occured, obviously. I've put about 50 miles on it since the change, and even washed the whole engine compartment, but it is still doing it. Anyone have any ideas, besides the fact that it was a Wal-Mart oil change? I noticed the belt is split and is about to snap any second now, but doesnt look to be smoking. Shouldn't be a related issue, but never know..

the down pipe egts covered in oil because the filter is right on top so its normal, try to wipe it next time it's a bit less bad with the smoke and odour!
How long does it normally last though? I thought oil burned off extremely quick

Make sure the filter is on tight and not leaking.
Good idea, knowing Wal-Mart's service. Will check when I replace my belt, another "fun" job I look forward to doing .. not.

I cant believe you went to WalMart to get that done. There are hundreds of horror stories about them screwing up something as simple as an oil change. It actually happened to a friend of mine. She had a really nice 2002 Jeep SUV. She while getting clothes and other household items decided to have them do an oil change.
Now this sounds unbelieveable I know but it is totally true. They didnt put in the @!#$in oil. She didnt even make it a mile and engine seized. They ended up buying her a new engine for her SUV.

Ouch.... My old boss had his oil changed and tires rotated at a service shop called "Precision Auto Tune" and when finished, he got in his car and turned on the 4-laned road in front of the shop.... 1/2 mile down the road, the left front tire just rolls off the car, and the car slams into the ground. They forgot to put the lugnuts back on the LF wheel. Nice.
They ended up replacing alot of parts for him,

Yes, I am aware of the lack of thought placed into my decision on hittin up Wal-Mart for an oil change. At least I did not have them replace my belt, which I finally did today. What a pain.. But at least I wont have to do it ever again since I used an original GM belt..

100 miles and one week later, still smokin and ridin... Filter is on tight as hell, seal is not screwed up, and drain plug is sealed good. Have heard of axles dripping grease onto the exhaust, but all axles are dry as heck. Looks like some oil may still be burning off from the resonator?resignator? however it is spelled. It looks black from oil dripping on it during the change, but cant tell if that is where it is coming from. When I open the hood, it comes from the back of the motor is all I can tell...

did you take that filter off and then put it on? it sounds like the seal didn't do its job very well, and are you losing oil?
Nah, it was put on and never removed. I just checked to make sure they installed it tight enough. Rubbed my hands all around the filter seal, since you cant quite see it from the ground, and it is dry as should be. I took it on another 100 mile trip tonight, didnt smell anything both times I stopped, so may be gone now. Will find out this upcoming week for sure. Hope it is gone...
