Fuel smell in car

I have a 97 z24.Everytime I fill up my gas tank, there is a strong fuel smell inside and around the back of my car. I don't spill any fuel, and I don't see any fuel leaking after parking the car and watching for leaks.....After I burn about 1/2 tank, it goes away! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions to what it could be

I have a similar problem, however, I'm almost positive my problem is from a gas tank leakage... I've temporarily solved it by just not filling the tank up. Since I am leaking gas too, this is my best option until I can get it fixed.

Good luck to you!

Hi Matt

are you able to look under the car when you get that smell.

Could be just a leak from one of the pipes/clips.
There are fill, supply.return, carbon filter and vent pipes

I had a tank leaking a while back.

The gas crept over the surface of the tank and then evaporated.
The smell was strong but no gas leaked on to the floor!
