Ac not cold
Saturday, June 11, 2005 3:53 PM
I have a 04 cavalier with a/c and it seems to really suck at cooling down my car. Does anyone else have this problem with thier new cars a/c ? It took about 20 minutes to really start cooling the other day seem a little long to me.

Thanks

Jason

Believe me I have a 5 year warranty and they will be hearing a lot from me soon. My trunk wont open with the key since they repainted my trunk lid and fixed my window.

When I bought my 02 cavy the ac didn't work. I took to dealership, under warranty, they recharged said that was it. 2 days later went hot again. Took it back and they said it was the compressor that was leaking and replaced it under warranty. No problems since.

If they tell you the refrigerant was low and they topped it up ask them if they checked for leaks. It's possible it was never filled properly at the factory but if it's low I would bet it's a leak.

Easy way to check for leaks, if it ever had dye put it would still be there, get a black light and some yellow tinted glasses.

The leak would show up as a bright neon yellow. Check the lines leading to the compressor, and condenser. Which are just 2 lines. Check around the connections, and the condenser itself. You could check the compressoer casing to but not all leaks in the compressor can be seen from the outside of it.

To see if dye has been put in, check the nozzle filler on the top, should have a screw on cap. Take it off and you should see the same neon yellow around the nozzle. If you don't then dye was never put in. Doesn't matter if dye was put in 2 years ago. It would still be visible.

Well how hot was it in your area? If it was hot, it will take some time for you to feel the effects of the A/C. It is a normal thing for me. I have an '02, so it takes about 10 min for the whole car to get real nice and cold. It goes for the same for your house. Easy way to put it is that the Heat puts a load on the A/C.
