My automatic window in the driver side is really messed up, it comes down but I have to push it back up, I went to a shop and they told me it should be the regulator, that they would install it for 60 bucks.
I just need to know if the regulator from a coupe would work on a convertible so I can go to a junkjard.
any other sugestions?

The original post is many years old now, but I searched here and in the Third Gen forum and didn't see the information I found out from having delved into the convertible window regulator issue myself. I apologize in advance if all you Third Gen convertible owners already know this. (I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in the earlier 'verts too.)
Electric window regulators for the coupes and sedans are readily available from aftermarket manufacturers and although quality varies, at least they're affordable compared to dealer prices for OEM parts. Unfortunately, I've never found convertible regulators on the aftermarket, meaning you have to buy new from GM (at near $300 each from a discount on-line vendor), find a used one at a yard , or just repair your old one using a new motors. (Motors are common to all the regulators and are readily available.) I'd gathered a collection of used regulators from various models, but decided to buy a new convertible one from GM, not knowing the actual differences, so I could change it once and for all and hopefully not have to deal with it again.
After examining them all, I can finally say I know what the (main) difference is between the coupe and convertible regulators. I'd like to tell you that they're stronger, made from better materials or have more complex geometry than the coupes, but that's not the case. They're built the same as the others and appear to have the same geometry and mounting points. The only difference appears to be that they have more up/down travel as the convertible window glass is slightly taller than that of the coupes. They accomplished this by using a main arm with a larger driven gear that has more teeth and swings a slightly larger arc. Mystery (at least to me) solved.
So, if you need a regulator for your convertible, the value for the dollar of buying a new one just isn't there (unless yours is hopelessly bent or broken and you can't find a used one, of course). If you're really clever, you might even be able to disassemble a couple regulator and install a convertible arm and gear from your broken one. (I won't be doing this, though. I hope to never have to revisit this again.) Thanks for reading. - Mark
