96 cavalier, 5 speed. Bought it from this site last year. the trannt bolts were broke off at the mounts. Put new tranny in it but didnt change the mount. Cheanged front wheel bearins about 3-4 months ago. For the last 2 weeks there is a vibration/humbing type grinding noise from the front. And the drivers side floorboard vibrates a good bit. When it first started twe thought maybe it was the tires because they were bad, got 4 new ones, still does it. It is getting worse, what should I look for?

motor mounts? tranny mounts?
I was thinking maybe the tranny mount. It was the lower tranny mount that was damaged.

sounds like a bad wheel hub assembly

come one guys its nice outside, and Ive only got about an hour daylight left. What do I look/check for?

i know what you're talking about i think, its somewhat of a vibration sound from the front of the car, with clicking from the wheels every once in a while, am i right? im having a hell of a time trying to figure out what it is.
maybe it's the cv joints/boots?

Check the wheel bearing.
Jack up the front end. Try to move the wheel towards and away from the car. If you have movement you probably have a bad bearing. Did you torque the nut down to 185 ft. lbs?
Consdier buy a timken this time if you do have to change it. Its got a life time warranty. You can find those at autozone for about $75.
I think the cheap ones are lifetime as well.

Heres the deal. Got home, jacked it up. The wheel bearing is not the cause. So with the rim off, I turned the rotor slowly one way then back the other way. Right where the CV joint goes into the tranny, it clanks like hell! There has to be a bearing there too right? Whats it called, and would I just have to replace that, or the shaft and all??
By the way, thanks for the help!

went to 2 different shops today, both said wheel bearing on the drivers side. But it lacked one distinctive trade the wheel bearings do when bad, which is when you turn the wheel back and forth, it changes sound. This one doesnt do that. So I got a hub, put it on in the rain. The noise is still there, but slightly different. What could cause this? I did it correct both times I have changed it. Could my axle be slightly bent causing the bearing to make the noise??

sorry for the double post. How would I tell if the axle is bent? And does the axle just pull out of the tranny, or what? Ive never changed an axle on these cars before.
