Cooling system flush

I have a 98 Cavalier with the 2200, I need to flush the cooling system and am going to install a prestone flush kit. The heater hoses going into the firewall are next to each other ( left and right), if I want to back flush the system, which hose do I attach the kit too? Also I had planned to undo the top engine mount and use a jack on the lower engine mount to lower the engine a little to make it easier, any other recommendations to make this a quick and easy job?

Yeah, pull off the bottom radiator hose and it will drain 80% of the system.

There is no need for a back flush unless the system is plugged up.

Do you know where it is plugged?

What kit from Prestone are you talking about? Post a link if you will.

I know they have one that connects it using your garden hose. If the system is badly plugged that isn't going to unclog it if that is what you are getting at.

That still doesn't answer my question about the heater hoses though. Also is it a best to leave the thermostat in or take it out while flushing? I've never pulled it out on other vehicles though but figured it's worth asking.

take it out. if you use that kit, doesnt matter what line you splice into. it'll work either way.

HOWEVER. i suggest before you use it, you use a bottle of actual cooling system flush. read the instructions, most require you to drive with it in the system for at least 10 hours. this doesnt mean 10 consecutive hours, just means 10 hours total with the car at operating temperature. after youve done that, then use the flush and fill kit, followed by a properly mixed (preferably non-dexcool) 50-50 antifreeze water mix.
