Issue: Idles at about 1,000 rpm (it is a manual car). But it will dip down a bit then come back up randomly, sometimes in stop and go traffic, it will die. I can make the car stall when i rev it up to about 3gs and when it comes back down sometimes the engine can not get back to idle and it stalls, it is like something is not catching it to keep it running.
From Research, last night i replaced:
Coil Housing
Replaced plugs with OEs
Cam Position Sensor
Vacuum line for map sensor(was dry rotted but not breached)
Throttle body is cleaned
Took IAC off and turned key on to make sure the valve cycled. Also Cleaned that up while it is off.
All the injectors sounded the same to me (used the screw driver listening trick)
FPR is not leaking, do not smell gas anywere.
All this seems to help, but I think it is still masking the real issue. I really do not just want to keep throwing parts at it to try to fix it.
The Plugs looked really good for having 115K on them, one was ever so slightly darker, but nothing that would raise a red flag. Also I do not know if this is related but if the car has been sitting in that 5-20 minute gap, it is a pain to start. (Car has always had the problem though). But you could turn it off and turn it right back on or let it sit all night in the winter and it will turn right on.
If anyone has any insight i would apreciate it.
Forgot to mention car accelerates and cruises fine
Any One? Checked at lunch, computer is not throwing any codes at all.
My car is having the same problem ... never died im doing alot of research and im trying to swap parts from my sunfire.... i have a sunfire and cavalier both 2.4 sunfire has no problems
ill get back to you asap
I replaced the O2 sensor and IAC, still no luck. I might try taking the cat off next but need to do some research, I think it might be clogging up and back pressure is causing my issue. Also thinking it could be leaking injector? They all sound the same and are sealed but maybe one of them is not flowing right?
my cavaliers whole exhaust is gutted.. no worrys on the exhausy.. im thinking a weird vacuum leak or sumthn
