A couple questions on my 97 Cavalier. It's an RS, 2.2L auto with 135K miles. Shortly after the car is started and I accelerate out on the road I get a slight hesitation, kind of like it bogs down or something. Could this be an indicationthe the fuel filter might be plugged and need to be replaced? It seems to run fine at other times, never really noticed the issue when accelerating from say 35 to 65 or anything.
The other question is what are possible solutions to the car pulling when braking? The car pulls to the left when I brake and after stopping and letting off teh brake the steering wheel turns a bit. I'm thinking suspension or engine mounts, I've just replaced the lower dogbone a week or so ago. It was shot but the new one didn't change the condition. The suspension (ball joints and the like) seemokay but I really haven't had the time to investigate further. When I push on the engine their seems to be some play in the upper mount, but I don't know what is normal.
Any advice or things to look at would be appreciated.
As for the pulling while braking, here is my suggestion.Drive on a good smooth level road say 35mph and apply the brakes easy and let the strg wheel go(hands free) if it goes to the left on it's own you probably need a alignment. As for noise pushing down on the fenders for strut noise yes the mounts could be the issue,or a worn strut if they have over 25k on them. Most struts really do not last forever on end.As for the hesistation how long has it been since a injector cleaning, plugs, wires and yeah the fuel filter could cause this. The hesistation usely is tune items,or needs injectors cleaned.I am know 3rd gen super mechanic but,the symptoms seem plain to me this should give u a good place to start.Unless I left something off may others add/correct me.Good luck, and some shops may check ur align for free(idk) to see if it is out but doubt it.
