You will always get conflicting opinions. The thing that matters most is that you change is every 3-4 thousand miles. Synthetic buys you leeway if your lazy. Turbo cars should only run synthetic. I personally use Mobile 1 because I can get 5 quarts for around 25 bucks at Walmart.

Parting out and for sale. | Thanks JBO!

well my mom has a 2010 focus and isnt going to the dealer anymore they put to much oil in her car and didnt put all the lug nuts back. she got me on the topic of oil and what to use. i dont have a set brand but would like to have one just for piece of mind and for conversation. its nice to have a product you stick with. i know mobil one is really good but it like 35 bucks where i am rough estimate. i change my oil between 3-5k miles and cant see using synthetic unless its really ALOT better. my manual says to change it every 7500 miles but i cannot do that. seem like forever. what you think of valvoline pennzoil and havoline? any experience with any of them?

I buy the cheapest crap, whatever is on sale at Walmart or wherever... and change it, with the filter, every 3k miles. I have never had an issue, with any car.

In short I have used valvoline just the regular in my old 85 cav,87 mazda trk and my wifes 04accord.I just routinely changed at 3k by habit and rule of thumb(which has changed to todays excepted rule). You can run oil longer than 3 obviously and up to 5k just depends on car, conditions etc.I have cheaped out alot with the truck and used walmarts super tech(pensoil) who makes it and is fine to use.I do not use synthetic due to age of vehicles(85,87,but the 04 does not require it either).I would only use synthetic if turbo'd or engine mods.As long as there is a API logo it is all fine really, but I am brand preferitial and use valvoline soley.Todays oils are really good with most of the major names.Just pick one and try it,go low cost to high,Idk the difference.Supertech works fine for me no oil burn,or drama in my 24 yr old maz trk.Hope this helps.

your car looks good for its age. its nice to see a well kept cavalier. so many people just trash them. how do you know supertech is penzoil? ive been told quaker state penz valvoline and warren oil. i just put the motor in my car and it has it in there. i am running it for 1000 and draining it since it was a junk yard motor. it seems to get dirty fast. so either it cleans good or is breaking down quick. atleast thats what ive been told. i would probably use it because it does just fine. but walmart anything scares me just becasue the company who makes it could change whenever based on who offers walmart the best price. even though any company would probably be ok. i wana know exactly whats in my car. i grew up with a family who always used valvoline. havent had any trouble but from what ive read they dont actually make there own oil. neither does casterol. so does that mean it could change whenever based on who offers them the best deal. idk. i would like to find a good reputable company i know wont change supports america and doesnt spend a crap load of money for marketing. basically im trying to find the perfect company. honestly i wish i could find a data sheet on all the oil brands and types and see what does the best ect....but finding actual factual info about oil is hard. atleast for me it is. .

5000 K Miles is way to far for oil you are going to regret it

Peace of mind for a few more dollars every oil change is worth it to me

Been running Mobil 1 in my 2000 Cavy Z24 since i got it with 120, 000 Kilometers on it and i just rolled 200, 000 Kilometers with no issues

Also run Mobil 1 in my 2010 Cobalt SS since it came factory filled with it

Change your oil on time

if you use synthetic oil you can go longer . according to everything ive read 5k on conventional is fine. my owners manual says 7500 miles. amsoil markets there oil for like 25k or once a year. thats just what ive read. so if im wrong please point me in the right direction.

In my Cavy and motorcycle I run Mobil 1 Synthetic . In the Cavy, only because it's got a built motor and it supercharged. My other cars I run the cheapest crap I can find and I've never had an issue. My Grand Am has the 2.4L in it with 180K+ miles on the cheapest oil I could buy. Still runs like a champ.

First as for the supertech ? to the best of my knowledge penzoil makes this for walmart. It is from info I heard thru local auto stores, and shops.I want swear by this but the bottle simply says made for quote walmart etc blah blah.Either way there oil is ON the spot NO bs,my truck is not picky but, runs just as well versus the the valvoline and literally have NO difference on color, oil burn,or issue. As for your oil being dirty in 1k means the oil is doing it's job cleaning deposits and that is a good thing. The oil never wears out,it is the additives that are put in the oil that break down!!! If the engine has some age, miles just pour a can of seafoam in the crankcase as you would if adding a quart of oil run it for a 100 miles or more before a oil change this will clean your internals out nicely. This can help with the oil getting darker quicker unless the engine has ring wear, fuel is mixing in the oil, or another issue. This is SAFE to do.Just drain and change filter and refill new filter. As for the valvoline NEXT gen that used motor oil where do I start.Used motor oil is filtered and simply the additives that are added NEW oil are added to filtered OLD old that is cleaned and additives are added back to it.It is the additives that wear out NOT the OIL itself.I will never buy it bc it is a gimic and the stuff on the shelf now is cost prohibitive and more like (oh I care about the enviroment bs).I say buy the new unless the new gimic is less cost then I will change my mind.

Re: whats the best motor oil

i agree supertech oil has done fine by me it just makes me wonder if the company that makes the oil changes when the current makers contratc expires. and i really try hard not to support walmart. that my biggest reason. i was considering buying the green oil because the enviromental impact it apparently will have. but i kind of feel sour about paying the same for it as reglar oil. although 5quarts and a filter is 18 bucks at my local oriellys . so i thought maybe ill give it a shot. but am leary. what makes you say its just a gimick? i dont disagree with you just curious as to why you think that. maybe you know something i dont.

it doesnt matter what oil you use u can use the most expensive stuff or the cheapest stuff on earth as long as u change it regularly your fine i just buy the cheap stuff from sams club i get 12 quarts of oil for 20 bucks and thats 3 oil changes right there just need to buy a new filter i never had a problem with my motor knock on wood and the car is running like new knock on wood. oil is oil as long as it lubricates your fine jus as long as you change it regualrly you will be ok

Pennzoil is the same as quaker state, It is all sold under Sopus (Shell Oil Products U.S.).

is quaker state and pennzoil exactly the same? i know they are owned by the same company. i would like to buy an oil from a company who makes a good product and doesnt spend a crazy amount on advertising.

I've had good luck with Synthetic Quaker State, Valvoline, and Pennzoil.

After 600+ miles, I'm loving this one.

Well I do not know what the so called green oil consist of.But using 50% used oil is really nothing new.ALot of fleet companies like trucking have there used oil picked up and it is taken to a facility to be cleaned and additives are put back into the old oil after the process and used again. The gimic side is it has been done more for commercial side of the plate trucking, and business oriented. And oil that has been thru this process is just as effective as crude that just has been put thru the process and additives added and packaged and sold to us the public.Gimic it is in my book, just for the public in general unless I am wayyyy off in my knowledge of things. And I do drive a big truck and have for 9 yrs and that is what my former companie did and as far as I know my current one.I buy what is cost effective and I like basically.Super tech/valvoline both work the same for me.

You can always check out the Bob Is The Oil Guy forums...

But they all seem to get a hard-on from doing oil samples & testing, posting results, etc..

I use Castrol GTX High mileage, feels a little sluggish.....probably because my car is 14 years old and needs a tune.
