I have a 2001 Z24 5 speed GM supercharged cavalier , About a week ago or so i got a check engine light, it flashed at me so i figured it had to be something more serious. I read the code and got P302 for cylinder 2 misfire. I assumed coil, so i went ahead and swapped out the coil for cylinder two with a used one along with new plugs no change. I then changed out the ICM unit again with a good used one and no change. For the most part the car seemed to be running fine although you can hear it in the exhaust that the car is not running perfect. I plan to do a compression test tonight to see if its the motor. I am also getting smoke coming out my catch can. So the hose running for the oil/air seperater is smoking. Any ideas? I am also getting water/ oil mix in my catch can but i just figured most that was coming from the ram air hood and running down my intake as i live in colorado and its been snowing alot. Any ideas of whats wrong or any suggestions on what else to check would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Its a 2.4.... those engines seem to crap out alot. Thats just my experience with em' i have tried brand new coils with no luck. hope you the best with it

we had one were the coil was cracked would run fine at idle but any load on the engine and it would misfire. If you got oil in water or vice versa and a dead cylinder compression test it.

Thanks, compression test is my next step im just waiting until i get someone to help me out. That sould give me a clue of weather its the motor or something else. These motors do crap out easy its @!#$ty. Mine has 4000 miles on it i just rebuilt it and have hardly even ran it hard. We shall see..
my car runs misfire codes when it needs new plugs or coil boots under the idi cover changed em out no probs
