About 3 weeks ago my rear defroster stopped working. Jiggled the wires and nothing. So i drive to work and the car is fine. I leave work and when I start the car I have this knocking sound which seems to be right under my dash somewhere in behind the stereo, etc. I let the car run for about 15 mins and it didn't go away. I drove home and about 10 miles in out of a 30 mile trip it stopped. The next day it was back when I started it and has kept on knocking/clicking. I have tried every different combo of stereo off,on heater on and off,etc The only thing I have noticed is that when the heater is blowing on the full speed it seems to surge. It will blow hard then die off a little for about 2 seconds then come back hard again. I don't know if this is related to the heater or rear defrost so any thoughts on what I can check or should I get ready to be bent over at the chevy garage? The sound is always the same, same pattern/beat.

Is your HVAC direction selector working properly?
Yeah...no issues with anything except the rear def. not working. I didn't hear anything under the hood either while it was running...def something inside...relay maybe??

the rear defrog ( ) could be one of two very common problems that you can find by searching
problem 1) small wire connector by pcm burned and needs replacement
problem 2) relay on hvac controller dead and need to replace hvac control unit
the knocking however i dont know. can you give a more centralized location where the knocking is coming from? and how loud / how fast, and is there anything you can do to make it better/worse while you're driving?

Hard to describe the knocking..coming from either behind stereo or on left side of glove box. Nothing I do changes the rythm of the beating...its now not constant which throws another loop into the variables. Sometimes it does it and other times it doesn't. It is def. annoying!! Id say its like 6 or 7 taps/knocks in a row.
