Okay this checking should have given some test results

What is fuel pressure key on engine off, and while cranking?

Didnt think Ecotec had fuel pressure regulators????, the fuel pump module is typically referred to as the fuel pump by some people

How did you check the fuel filter, typically you remove it to see if it is plugged

How did the spark plugs look upon removal?

How did you test the fuel injectors, are you getting injector pulse while cranking, did you use a noid light?

Do you have spark while cranking?

Can you hear the fuel pump turn on, when you turn the key on?

fuel pump relay. i'd just about put my paycheck on it.
take your a/c relay out of your relay box under the hood, and swap it out with your fuel pump relay (they are side by side). if it fires up, boom-- problem fixed. drop down to your local auto parts store and spend ~$12 on a new relay.

let me know if this was the fix!

Try holding ur foot on the accerator pedal and start it. Does it start just not idle now?? If thats the case, I would look into ur Idle Air Control Valve or IAC. Those do go bad and wont let the car run. It will fire up, but right away die since the car is not getting no air in the system. Other then that, try the Relay swap also. Goodluck!

100% wrong sir. They do. I can prove it, (asside from my 2002 that had the Ecotec and it needed to be replaced under warranty) here is a part number:

From Napa:

CRB 2166504 = Idle Air Control Valve List Price $ 114.00

Still dont think you are wrong??

Here is the linky:

Linky for Napa

Soo, please do the research before you come in here trying to prove someone wrong. They may not call it a Idle Air Control Valve, but Napa sure as hell does, as im sure everyone of the parts stores will call it to. So if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck........

Edit, Had the price wrong

Indeed I was good sir lol.
Yea Ecotecs have IACs but they don't have EGRs. I think (hopefully) this was your error in thinking.

Ahh okay cool. Just making sure. Yeah they dont have EGR's, but I love how he was quick to point me out wrong lol. I really hate when people give other people wrong information. That just irks me. If im wrong, and someone points it out, Ill be the first to admit it. Just like another post that someone pointed out I was wrong in, and I actaully thanked him for correcting me. Not like some other people in here and other posts. Ahh well. What can ya do. To the OP, hopefully you figured out what the issue was. Goodluck!! And feel free to let us know.

Yeah ecotecs 02-05 have iac valve and fuel regulator So dont give out wrong information Rob as for relay being bad if he checked fuel pressure like he said there would of been no pressure with relay bad pump would not prime. He definetly missed something on all those test he performed.

I think this Rob guy just has it in for me. IIRC this is also the same guy I got into it with about him being Mr. Dealer. Im not saying its him, but he has tried to prove me wrong in other threads here. But meh, Idc really. Like i said in other threads with another poster, I dont take the interwebs seriously enough to get mad its all fun for me really, and pure and utter bordom (SP??) at work lol

i replaced the fuel pump ,the old one must of gave out cause i noticed the old one wasnt making a sound when u turn the key to accesories..i did the thing when u put alittle gas in the throttle body and it would start but when that gas burned up it died, also i took off the fuel filter that i just replaced and noticed that no gas was coming out..I also checked for the fuel line(the piece that looks like a valve for a tire)and no gas came out..neighbor thinks that when pump died the relay went w/it and i just brought the relay back to the store..and yes ecotec have IACs but didnt think that would be the problem cause most cars will still run when that goes bad(just dont know about ecotec) maybe a check engine light would go on(mine stays on ever since i installed the headers and high flow convertor)..just afraid that im gonna spend money on sumthing that didnt solve the problem..

Well, if you had no pressure, then it has to be ur fuel pump. The car will sometimes run with the IAC is bad. As long as it didnt stop working when its fully closed. If so the car wont run until you floor it and let air into the motor. From the sound of it, I would have swapped the relay first, bc now since u replaced the fuel pump, we really wont know if you actually needed the fuel pump itself. But either way, if you got the car running it sounded like you fixed the issue, which was fuel related. Next time, just for future reference, try the small stuff first, then go to the bigger stuff. You did right by replacing the fuel filter. But try the relay first then check for pressure at the valve, and then if you know you have power at the fuel pump, you can condem it. Either way good job at fixing it

no prob, also my dad likes ur z24 convertable mike he owns a 2000 z24 convertable as well but his problem is his weather stripping its sooo bad that when u touch it it falls apart in ur hand.hows ur weaher stripping and if u bought new 1 where cause here in jersey noone has one and its dealership only and its 1000 bucks per side(for a piece of rubber)

Re: 2.2 ecotec,wont start

Thanks man. Yeah Im starting to have the issues with the weatherstripping too. Mine arent too bad at the moment, but it will happen. I have seen them on Ebay for around 4-500 for the full set. The biggest issue we have with our cars, is that there is NO aftermarket support for our seals. So were pretty much stuck paying whatever they want. There is a company out there called Soffseal and they sell kits for our cars. There is also another trick I have seen some people do. I dont recomend it, but it does beat paying over 500 bucks for some rubber peices. On the parts that are breaking up, try and get it to something solid, like breaking all the pieces off and having the more solid rubber underneath it. Then you can lift the top, or put it all the way down if you have a garage, and fill the parts in with black RTV silicone. I have seent his before, and once its down, just smooth it out, but dont roll ur windows up or the such. On the parts where the top folds, dont overlap that and such. Just smooth it out, try and get it to look normal as much as possible, and let it dry for at least 10-12 hours. This way it will harden up and such. Its not garunteed but I have seen tons of people do this and extend the life of there seals. Doesnt always look good, but it works. But here, Check out This Thread about how to fill it in with silicone, they give alot better directiosn,a nd there are some links in there on how it should/will look after your done. Keep my posted, bc I may try this in the near future since mine are sorta on there way out too. When it rains hard, I might as well put the top down since I get wet inside also goodluck, and deff let me know how it works! Its a shame to not try something thats 10 bucks VS spending 500+ on new seals.

Car is fixed it turns out wires were backwards how embarassing:-(

Re: 2.2 ecotec,wont start

Hey glad to see ur car is fixed, but what wires?? Because if your talking about ur spark plug wires, then there lieing to you bc ur car does not have spark plug wires, bc there only "boots" that connect ur coil pack to the plugs, and your coil pack housing litereally only goes on one way. But nonetheless, glad to see shes running again!
