Water/Coolant Leak..... '99 2.4L
Tuesday, August 10, 2010 10:30 AM
My car has a major water leak coming from the radiator hose.. I dont know which one to call it, on the topside of engine on tranny side under power steering pump.. I assume its the housing seal is blown out or whatever... Can anybody tell me what the seal is called and/or what kind of seal it is? I searched NAPA and got an O-Ring type seal, not sure if thats right, I haven't taken anything apart yet.

Thanks in advance for any help..

Heres a couple pics.. Idk if you can tell but it was leaking when I took them.. I couldnt figure out where it was at first, but then the leak just got really bad the last 2 days then I finally found this with water coming out all around the housing right after I put a gallon of water in.

cant see the leak from those small pics but yeah looks like your water outlet houseing is leaking if its coming from that area. buy a hose clamp tool and the outlet housing, its pretty easy replacement. make sure you also replace the small oring on the hard line, i didnt and it now leaks a little bit.

Hmmm Idk whats up with the pics they are big but show up little when linked... If that thing is cracked that would be the second one i've had go out, not on the cavy but the one on my jeep cracked too.. Could it be a bad seal though? Idk why it would crack like that... I'd go pull it out now but it looks like rains coming... will have to wait.

Thanks for fixing that... yeah it sat for a while so there wasnt much water coming out.. but before I put a gallon in and it was leaking out all around the seating surface of the outlet. There is a gasket there though right? or O-Ring whatever it is? I'd rather spend a dollar on a gasket then 15 on the outlet if its just a gasket.

you can just buy the o-ring, but when you take it apart it may crack on your like it did for me, it cracked where the smaller heater hose connects that cracked so i would just replace the whole thing, plastic with time brittles and will crack.

the outlet will come with its own o-ring and a small one for the hard line one.

Yepp I took it off today and it was cracked all around.. I can see why it leaked so badly, that really is a flawed design. Got the new one already put on today, NAPA had one in stock so I didn't even have to wait to get it. The new outlet didn't come with a new small O-Ring for the hard line so they guy threw one in for free but it wasn't the right one. I put the old one back on so with some luck it will last but if it doesn't its no big deal to take off again.
