Z24 Transmission problems

Ok. I had no issue with my tranny, ever, and yesterday I was driving and it just "fell" out of gear. I tried to get it back in gear, but it was like the gears weren't where they were suppose to be. It wouldn't go in reverse at all.

Well, I got it working somehow, and the same thing happened on the way home.

The only way I can explain it, is it's like the shifter and something below it isn't lining up with the gears on the transmission. When I put it in what should be first, it feels like 3rd or 4th. When I try to put it in reverse, it's like 4th or 5th. I had to drive it home, and by the time I got it home, it's like it wouldn't come out of 3rd or 4th but it was in the N position, and it was loose, like when in N.

Stupidest thing I've ever had to deal with, and I don't know much about transmissions, so any ideas?????

Clutch feels great, and when it's in gear (whatever gear it's in) it stays in and feel normal. No grinds or anything.....

Had something kinda like that on my first Z, there is a roll pin that connects the main external shifter arm thingie (technical term mind you) that sheared off on me. Basically making it so that moving the shifter in the car does not do anything in the transmission.

Might look at that. Cost me ~400 to get fixed, because I couldn't get at it myself (at the time anyway, I could probably do it now that I know more).

And that's in the engine compartment right? I think I know what you're talking about, and if I'm right then it's not that.

Thanks though man, definately a good point to check out! It;s just by chance that I found it lol

Yeah, what I'm talking about is basically underneath the brake master cylinder (IIRC. No Js anymore so I can't just run outside and look).

You should be able to see it without taking anything apart, it's really easy to spot if you have a helper monkey in the drivers seat moving the shifter around. Then you just have to look for what's moving :p

Thanks again man for the help! Already got more help from this forum than any other I've been on! lol

What happened, was the bracket that holds the two cables in place, broke in half somehow. I'm looking around to find it cuz nobody seams to carry that particular part unless I buy the whole system. How stupid is that?
