Ok, around the brake fluid reservoir there is a skinny grey wire that kinda looks like it orinally comes through the firewall in a thick harness, on the drivers side.
After looping around the reservoir, in towards the engine, the grey wire comes to a black connector and then joins a bunch of other wires and goes down into the engine spaghetti.
In a fit of frustration pulling on something under the hood not watching that wire, i snapped it, right at the black connector peice, its really crappy brittle plastic, i looked in the wire and it seems to be hollow, just a skinny gray tube....
..So now its electrical taped up really tight
Can anyone tell me what this little skinny grey tube that runs behind the brake fluid reservoir is?
I belive the one you are talking about is a vacuum hose that comes from the throttle body and goes into the wire harness and then back out near the firewall. I think its for the HVAC controls.

Almost

I know which one your talking about that attaches to the TB. But the OP is talking about the other one in the master cylinder area. I have NO clue to what that is for. Like you said, it seems to be a HVAC hose because my old 2.2 engine had the same hose in the same area.

Thanks for the replies
I don't know if it is the age of the plastic, or GM 's fantastic material choice but the little tube is so brittle I could easily break it into little pieces with my fingers, like it was a hickory stick. I am usually observant of things that could happen like this but I didn't have a chance with this one.
Ive decided since replacement is not a plausible option, I'm just going to put some heat shrinkable tubing on it, put my wire cover over it and call it a day. I just wanted to make sure that this was in fact just a small air passage way, not an electrical wire that the copper has just slipped down into the insulation, making it look hollow.
If its a problem I'm sure the boss in the bumper will let me know...
Thanks.
I think its a venting tube for the transmission. If u look at the side of the transmission, youll see a black hose connected to it.Trace it and see if thats it.

It's a vacuum line. I will have to look at one of the J's to be sure what it goes to. But I know it is just a vacuum line.
