It was getting time to change my back brakes. I have no real questions about it, except for one.

On the back side brake shoe, the ebrake cable has a pretty hefty spring on it, and that ffixture on the end of the cable.

So, I'm supposed to push back that spring so I can fit the back brakes metal arm between the spring and the fixture on the end of the spring, so the ebrake will engage.

I did everything else perfectly, but I cannot for the life of me get the spring to move back enough to slide on the metal little notch onto the ebrake cable.

I tried putting in a big flathead screwdriver to wedge it back, needle nose pliers to push it back, vice grips to push it back, but the cable is far to wiggly to attempt to push back the spring. I tried using a c-clamp to hold down the cable to get some leverage on the spring while I push it back, but that didn't work.

I am just completely out of ideas in how to push the spring back in order to get the leading shoe's metal arm onto the ebrake cable.

Anyone else run across this?
