hey, my brothers 98 2.2 cavy has this really bad problem with the engine racing. from time to time it races up and hits the rev limiter and dies down and hits the rev limiter again and keeps doing that. i was wondering if anyone knew what could be going on. any ideas? maybe it could be the EGR valve if this year is equipped with one. if i recall correctly ive read somewhere that only certain years and up have EGRs..not sure.. or maybe it could be the throttle sticking. i dont think its a vent or anything because it only happens sometimes..not all the time..a sensor or something maybe. any thoughts would be great . thanks

poss vacuum leak. need to see what the tps sensor and map sensor is reading

Sounds like a problem I had fixed a year ago. Could possibly be the fuel pump. Sometimes my car would cut off while in park or reverse.
