cat replacement
Friday, September 19, 2008 1:06 PM
my car was throwing a code for the o2 sensor in the manifold so i replaced it, cleared the code and it was normal for a bit/ light came back on and now im getting a catalytic converter low efficiency code. so i know i need to replace the cat. so i went to my mechanic and he was telling me the place he buys parts for says he just cant cut and weld a new one in place, they said the check engine light would come back on. They however said that they sell a direct fit cat that will will work just like oem but they want $350 for just the part? what i want to know is are they telling the truth or are they just bs-ing to make some money? my e-test i coming up so i need to get one. any input is appreciated , btw the car still has a completely stock exhaust

I'm pretty sure they're just bs-ing to make some money. I found the above looking on Google for 2 seconds but there are plenty of options you could go with that are around $75.

When my cat went, i ended up replacing the whole exhaust since it was cheaper than an OEM cat.

rip off

go somewhere else

the only reason the cel would be on is because you have to clear it, otherwise, yes, the light will still be on
