so my car is messing up pretty bad and im having trouble figuring out what it is. when i crank it up the seal on the oil filter blows out and shoots oil everywhere. i changed the oil filter like three times and it continued so i figured maybe my rings were bad and air was seeping past and causing a buildup of pressure in the bottom end. when i checked the compression on my pistons it was between 195 and 220 on all of them. is that normal? my dad said thats like a 12/13:1 compression. any help is appreciated. the car is a 96 cavalier with a 2.4 manual
Is the crankcase vent plugged?Vent blow by? Carbon deposits built up in combustion chambers. You should have 100psi minimum or 30% maximum variation between cylinders.
how could it be blow by if the compression tester read around 210 on all cylinders? i think one of the hoses oh the little black box below the intake manifold that runs to the air intake tube is off would that cause it?
Your compression tests way to high. Are you checking it when the engine is cold?Weak Battery? Are the valves moving?I don't know about that hose being off would could cause it but sounds like the vent.I never worked on a 2.4 but Im trying to give you an idea on what to check....Domed pistons
i got stock pistons and when i tested it it was the first time it had been cranked in two days. yeah the valves are moving
If ou go to quad4forum.com and do a search on tis problem you will find out what it is. I want to say there is a relief valve for the oil to return to the bottom of the engine and its more than likely stuck or plugged shut. And if i recall right you have to take the head off to fix the problem. Dont quote me on this cause its kinda hazzy to me but i do remember it being in the q4f.
