Hi,

I'm new to posting to this forum, but I've been a long-time lurker. I checked around the site for anybody else having this problem, but didn't come up with anything. So maybe somebody can help me:

I have a 1997 Z24 Cavy with the 2.4L DOHC (the LD9 I think its called). When I turn on the car it will run fine. However, when I put it into gear and begin to apply constant throttle pressure, the engine stutters, revs up and down, and usually dies. Once the car dies and is restarted, the problem resolves itself until the car is later turned off and has sat for awhile. Then it happens again just like before. This problem only seems to occur after it has rained or there is otherwise high humidity in the air. There are no codes displayed to correspond with this issue. Anybody else have rain-issues with their cars, too?

Everything on the car is stock/OEM.

Any help would be appreciated. My family mechanics are no help, and I'd like to take car of this annoyance myself. Thanks.

Well it kinda sounds like when a distributer cap would be cracked, causing problems in the rain.

Obviously your car doesnt have a distributor, but the coil is a known weak point for the 2.4, and this would be the equivilent for that scenario.

The best advice I could give though, is take it beyond your local mechanic, and have it properly diagnosed.

The coil cover (white plastic piece) attached under the IDI cover(where it says 2.4l twin cam) fails more often than the coils, I am on my third...

John - What should I look for on the coil to see if it is defective?

Luis - I know what part you're referring to. Do you happen to know how it fails? I though it was just a plastic piece that held the spark plugs in place.

Sometimes you will see cracks, water, other signs, sometimes there is NO signs that it is bad...
