Are all the other 3rd gen window motors the same? I lost my window motor last night and I know for one from a 96, I was wondering if it was the same....

I think the part number depends on year and number of doors. And, although I've replaced 3 of them, I can't remember if it also depends on whether it's the driver's side or the passenger side. I'd suggest going to one of the online parts stores, like
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com, and look up the part number for the 1997 and 2002 models in question to see if the power window motor part number is the same.
By the way, I posted instructions for replacing the power motor window on a 1996 2-door here. You may find the instructions useful.

I ran 2 wires from the battery, straight to the window motor today and I got the window up but it was really slow, is the wondow motor gone or is it something else?

If the power was running through the switch, they can sometimes get corroded and reduce voltage throughput. If you hot wired it to bypass the switch and it's still slow, consider a new window regulator (that's the motor) before it conks out halfway up when it's raining
Also, be sure to check and see if the rails are greased, I know on mine there was no lube on it and it was beginning to rust. I hit it with a wire wheel and greased the @!#$ out of it and its much better now
I replaced the motor and it was still slow, which lead me to checking this. I would HATE to need to replace it again, what a PAIN!
I agree that you might as well try to grease it. But it sounds like your motor is failing. I suspect that grease may help temporarily (like maybe a few days) until the motor fails completely.

I did mine myself late last fall and they were still pretty slow. I just tried to grease the rails up as much as possible... Just make sure to use lock-tight bolts and NOT rivits, because chances are you will be doing them again...
