A while back i noticed while my car was idling that it sounded slightly deeper then normal, not really that noticeable but its something like i found strange. I hadn't changed anything except the Air Filter to a Universal Cone Filter. I go my brother to sit in the car and rev it up to 2500 then let it drop back down while i knelt down by the exhaust, it revved up normal but on the way back down i could hear a low popping, it popped about two times on its way back down and again is not perticually noticeable unless you are standing close to the back of the car but i don't remember hearing it before.

Could this be a sign of a small exhaust leak? Something i noticed is there is quite a bit of black around the exhaust tips.
Any ideas as to what it can be?

Cover the tailpipe with your hand to seal it off. If you hear the popping or puffing, you have a leak.
