How many quarts does the 4t40e take for changing the fluid and filter? Mine hasn't been done since I had it and I bought it with 61,339 and it now has 96,000 on it. I just want to make sure all is well with it and get it done since i'm sure that it needs the change regardless.

it doesnt. complete overhaul is teardow, drain and refill. as in from the bottom up, no fluid in the trans.

i would start with about 4.5 -5 qts. with a pan removal. Let the car idle for about 10 min or so and pull the plug on the right of the trans and add if necessary till it starts to stream out. Recap and drive then possibly recheck .
