Pulling left while breaking

I have a question.
when i break my sunfire pulls left.
I check out the breaks and it has nothing to do with them. i also checked out my rotors and those are fine too. i looked at all the joints and from eye inspection they all look fine. i couldn't see anything was bent either.

while driving if i let go of the wheel it slowly goes left, but when i push the break it like jerks left hard.

i read previous post and people had to rotate their tires. i did that and no success or change. the tires look fairly new also.

so my only guess is that it might need an alignment.
i never seen a car so much out of alignment that it would jerk that much. thats why i think something is wrong with it.

so the question is do you think it is just an alignment?

If it pulls left it is something damaged on the left side right?

if anyone has any information at all its all appreciated.
thank you again.

Check your calipers, get somebody to apply to brakes and look at the calipers to see if they both are working or if one is not functioning properly etc.
Check for un even wear on the pads on both calipers, so look to see if one set of pads are more worn then the others etc.

It is either a caliper or brake line, Look for fraying on the rubber near the ends.. take off the caliper and try to press the piston in, if it doesnt go in then open the bleeder and if it goes in then it is probably your line.

Well i have 2 new front calipers now. those are not the problem. I check my breaks.

One weird thing is my right break caliper squeezes while driving once in awhile. this only happened yesterday when it was wet. So i took it off and lubed the stuff on it.

I rotated tires all over and it still pulls.

i had my girl friend drive slow and i watched her push the breaks. i could see the whole tire like jerk it looked like on the passenger side.

i checked the wheel barrings and they look tight. All the joints look and feel tight when i try to move them. Could the strut cause this problem?

if the bar pulls left, what side should i be looking at?

thanks again

[while driving if i let go of the wheel it slowly goes left]--This could be alignment

As Cavmania says

[but when i push the break it like jerks left hard.]---I have just changed a right side front flexy hose on mine--- which cured the same fault.

There is nothing obviously wrong with the old hose, from an external visual inspection but a new OEM hose and all is fine again.

You need to jack up the front of the car and check everything. It sounds like maybe a suspension problem. You said you saw the tire move around when the brakes were applied. Check the strut tower (the bearing plate above the spring), check the ball joint, check the control arm, check the tie rod and rack and pinion mounts, recheck the wheel bearings. You will only be able to move any of these items with the load off the suspension (full droop). If you take it in to any respectable alignment shop they will tell you if there's any problems with the front end. You CAN'T do an alignment and expect the car to go straight if any of those things I mentioned needs attention.

Heres a list of things to check, straight from the Haynes Manual.

  1. Incorrect Tire Pressures
  2. Front End out of Alignment
  3. Front, or Rear tire sizes NOT matched to one another
  4. Restricted brake lines or hoses
  5. Malfunctioning drum brake or caliper assembly
  6. Loose suspension parts
  7. Loose Calipers
  8. Excessive wear of brake shoe or pad material or disc/drum on one side

Just a few more things to check, i hope this helps a bit more
