Hey guys this is my first time posting here but this is my go to source for info on how to get things done with my cavalier, so thanks to everyone for all the helpful info I've found, but I've got a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to yet so here it goes. I've got a 2000 Z24 that I just replaced the ignition, ECM, fuel pump, fuel filter, crankshaft positioning sensor, camshaft positioning sensor, and ignition module in, in the last year, and low an behold good old Spike, (yes, I named my car, he's like my pet, ha ha) has developed the death knock in the bottom end, it has 140,000 miles on it. So now I've been looking for a replacement 2.4 and am having a hard time finding one for a decent price, so I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it would be to throw a 2.2 in there, I can find them all over the place and for pretty cheap. I'm hoping to do the work myself, it'd be my first engine swap, I've done alot of work on cars, all the stuff I listed I did, except for the ignition and I've swapped tranny's in previous vehicles so I'm fairly handy with a wrench, so what would be a realistic amount of time I would have to dedicate to swapping them, if I can pull it off, is it a weekend job? I'm hoping to save the 2.4 while it's still repairable and build it slowly for a possible turbo set up and turn Spike into a project car, eventually. Thanks for taking the time to check out my post and for any advice you could offer.
AFAIK you need
2.2 Engine
Trans
ECM
engine wiring harness
PS
Alternator
Water pump
and CV Axles
i could be wrong though... not too many ppl swap to the LN2 (2200) from the faster engines
Thanks for the info, I'll have to look into it a bit more, I surely don't want to have to put 2.2 in, I liked the LD9, but she's gonna go soon I fear and I don't want to wreck th block, unfortunately those LD9's are hard to find around here, at least for 600-800 dollars and the 2.2's are going for $400 with only 40k on them, I don't suppose anyone would have a good line on where to find a 2.4, and don't say junk yards, I know of them, and have checked, thanks.
