Low coolant light?

So ive never seent his dashboard warning light come on before, but its on my 2000 sunfire.

The icon is red, and looks like water with an arrow pointing down.

Is this the coolant warning light? Its on the right side of the console.

If so, which type of coolant should I get for it? Anything I should keep in mind when filling it up?

yes, that is your low coolant light.

make sure you get dex-cool approved coolant only (it will say right on the bottle). you can get it at walmart pre-diluted.

Should I keep anything in mind when topping this stuff up?

Im assuming I want my engine to be cold before I open the thing.

Anything else?

you should top it off, then start the car with the cap still open and keep the coolant at the right level by adding more as the level goes down. that way you will have gotten any air out of the system.

Is it safe to start the car with this cap open?

Can anyone else confirm that I should start the car with the cap open and keep adding more fluid with the car running?
