Replacing Drive belt 03 cavalier
Monday, March 10, 2008 5:26 PM
I am looking for some information with instructions on how to replace a drive belt for my 2003 cavalier LS coupe model vehicle. If vedios are available for this it would also be most helpful. I have not done this type of repair before but I am pretty handy. The more info that can be provided on this topic will be most helpful... thanks in advance.

A video??? to show how to replace a freaking belt

How about release the tensioner, slide belt off, slide new belt on except around one pulley, one perferably easy to reach, pull back on tensioner so you ge slack in the belt, slide belt on
done quick 5 minute job on these cars

where is the tensioner located and is there a special tool that is need for it. There is literally no freaking space for work room where the belt is located so that is why I wanna know where exactly the things are. Just wanna go in and get out wam bam. Yuh know what I am saying?

Rob S, you have to remove the right front tire, and than the plastic splash shield. The belt/pully system is than accessable. Space is tight but adaquate. Its the only way to access the belt. I had the same problem trying to get info. Haynes manual gives no info so I bought the factory service manual which gives step by step instructions. Also have a 2003. No special tools, just ratchet or socket breaker bar.

Jimmy, I found mine on e-bay under car parts/manuals. Price can vary, paid 60.00 for mine but have seen them go for over a hundred. You can find them new if you google factory service manuals on line. Its the only way to get proper repair info along with pics and proper torque info.
Wish I had a way to load manual pics and info to you but I don't. If you need more info pm me.

Also, in ref to splash shield there's a combo of screws and plastic retainer pins you have to remove. Pain in the arse but only way to do it.

3/8" ratchet fits into the spot on the tensioner, a breaker bar will make it easier and I'd do it from the bottom. I would do the bottom of the crank pulley as the last because you have the most room around it.

Make sure the ribs are facing the ribbed pulleys which are the crank, alt and AC. The non ribbed side will face the tensioner.
