ok last saturday i went to the store and on the way back when i would attempt to stop it wanted to stall out. well it did when pulled into mr.z's store. so when i came out it started right up. and that was when it started to try and stall out. so the next day which was sunday a family member needed to use my to go to work.it started right up. but the gas was a little low but the check gauges light just came on.so as soon as i pressed the gas pedal it stalled out and attempted to start but wouldn't. so i thought it was because there was not enough gas to started up. so the next day i went and filled up a gas can and put it my car and it started right up, but as soon as i went to press on the gas it would stall out and it doesn't want to start. all it does is crank and crank and crank. now yesterday i put a new battery and fuel filter in in and it just cranks and cranks and cranks and just won't start.
Would be nice to know what car you have, but, from the symptoms I would guess the fuel pump.[new battery and fuel filter in]
You said [so as soon as i pressed the gas pedal it stalled out] which makes me think there is enough fuel pressure to idle but not to run any faster.
I would check the fuel pressure first.

by the way its a 1996 sunfire
how can i check to see if it is my fuel pump
When you turn the ignition switch to "on" you should be able to hear the pump running for a few seconds till it primes the fuel system and rises the pressure, it is a low humming since the pump is inside the gas tank.
it does sound like a fuel pump to me. x2 on checking the pressure first. dont wanna drop money on a part you dont need lol.
Silly ricer, useless wings are for penguins.
I've seen fuel pumps fail to pump, even when they "sound" like they're working. If you can hear the pump running when you first turn on the ignition (only for a second or so), then I would try disconnecting the fuel line at the engine to see if there's fuel getting there. Be careful - if it's working, there should be pressure in those lines. If there's nothing there, run the disconnected line into a container and try turning on the ignition again to see if anything comes through. If you can hear the pump, have a new filter, but still nothing makes its way through, then it's definitely the pump.
If you DO get fuel there, then things may get a bit more interesting...

just take something and push in the schrader valve on the end of the fuel line. have someone turn the jey to the on position and gas should shoot out pretty fast, remember there should be about 40 psi or so there. if it kinds leaks out then its the fuel pump. but if its working it should soak the fender of the car
