My sister has a 02 Cav LS sport and her front end was making a really odd noise... anyways took it into the dealer and they said the front shocks needed to be lubed... and that it's general maintenance... so anyways we get the car back and its back to normal... now my parents 04 sunfire is doing the exact same thing.... so I was wondering how hard it would be to diy... or if anyone knows what the cause of this would be..
you could put some sort of liquid wrech on the shaft lol or greese. I have heard of it being done right before somone sells the car lol

I know it makes no sense to me either... I guess the exact term they used was they serviced the struts.... when we questioned what they did they said they lubed them...
Eh it got you out of their right lol that is all they care about.

ya but the thing is the problem was fixed... and now my parents sunfire is doing the same thing... (if my sunfire starts doing it i'll just replace the struts)
you could get some silcone greese and put it on the shaft and press up and down on the car to make it slide in and out. or jack it up and push on the tire

Whats the odd noise?
Could be any number of things.
More than likely its either the strut mounts or spring isolators. What they probably did was spray some silicone grease on the isolators and called it done.
Another possibility is a dead control arm bushing.
So many possibilities, but I've never lubed a strut...

upon further review I believe it is as you said the mounts... all they did was pack the mounts with silicon grease...
all they did was pack the mounts with silicon grease...does this do anything???...cause the guy i bought my car off said he did this every time he got his oil changed except he poured engine oil onto the mounts in the strut towers.....

according to the dealer it's something that is supposed to be regularly done?? as part of regular maintenance???? I think it's just a cover for a faulty mount..
i had this done to my car once and then realized that when i went to replace the mount that the bearing was so caked up with the oil or "lube" they used that it caused the bearing to stick and attracted dirt and sand. I had to replace the mount and bearing.

sooo oil on strut mounts = BAD????

i would say it's just a way to hide the problem.
