Well the wifes car (1996 fire 2.2) has a whining noise when its in reverse and drive its driving me nuts and i checked all the fluids and they are all full... if anyone knows what it could be and how to correct it let me know its really driving us both up the wall and its making her worry ALOT

My 1993 Honda Civic (when I had it) had incredibly loud gearwhine in Reverse, but that was due to the design of the gears. It also gearwhined going forward, but nowhere near as loud.

My 2003 Cavalier has gear whine going both ways as well. I attribute it as normal, unless it is excessively loud.

Is the gearwhine very loud or just perceivable? If it is very loud going forward, then your gearbox is ready to die. If it is loud enough to hear it, but not over a conversation, or the radio, or the engine, you're fine. A little gearwhine is commonplace in old gearboxes.
