A/C assembly going bad
Friday, October 05, 2007 8:43 PM
hey guys, my a/c assembly is going bad.. well a few parts of it are... so instead of spending money to replace it before winter, im thinking about just putting on a shorter belt and "skipping" the a/c

63" serp belt should do the trick i believe...

correct me if im wrong?

would shortening up the belt and skipping the a/c have any issues for the car? just trying to throw a bandaid on this problem til i can deal with it in spring.

thanks guys

All you have to do is remove the compressor (and the rest of the A/C system if you choose.) Go to any auto parts store and get the belt for a NON-AC 2200 motor. No guess work, no measurements...it's a perfect fit. I did this exact thing on my car. Who needs A/C when you have windows?

i love my windows...

haha how hard is it to take out the a/c system... im kinda sketch under the hood
working on it though...

they said the 63" would be the one i would need... and for the AC (should i put it back in) i believe its 88"

Well, I literally dealt with NO measurements. I just bought the non-A/C belt and knew right away (when I put it on) that it would fit/work. You can see right away that the tenstion is right and it'll be the same as stock.

It really isn't that hard, and you really don't HAVE to take out the whole system if you don't want to. At the least, you just have to get some of the lines and the compressor itself out. It really isn't that hard to take everything out. You'll see all the fittings you'll have to loosen/remove and the compressor mounts on the block the way the alternator would. Just be careful when you bleed your system, if it's still charged. That stuff will freeze your lungs.

i might just duck into my friends repair shop and ask him for help, seeing as he has a licence to do that sort of thing and took his a/c out of his truck like two months ago. he could make sure i dont die... lol

now i just need some money... saving for next semester in college + modding car + girlfriend = -dollars
