The plot thickens (clutch)

The new SPEC clutch is performing admirably, but I am now experiencing another problem!

When I push in the clutch, and when I release it, the "catch point" is further back every time. The problem can be accelerated by pushing the clutch in several times while sitting still in Neutral.

It already "settled in", so I know it's not that.

At the time of writing, it's "catch point" is halfway up, as opposed to a little bit off the floor, and it's still rising.

I was recommended a bleeding of the hydraulic line. Could it be something as simple as that?

my catch point for all my spec clutches was about an inch in. I could barely touch the clutch pedal and be able to shift..... That was how all 3 are, and were supposed to be. My buddies mustang is that way and my buddies 1.8t is the same way.

Now I exaggerated but in honestly I had to push the clutch in maybe 3 inches or so till I could shift

It's much more than one inch, it's like 75% of the way up now. What I do know now that i didn't before is with the clutch out I can hear a kind of rattle. It's more prevelant when engine braking.

Fixing this car is like taking a seen-on-TV drug to cure a disease. It fixes one symptom but causes 10 more!

From the floor or from the top? If from the top then I guess it will stop going up right about now. I'll find out when I get home.

Well, I got an email from SPEC, and they said it could be the problem with the slave cylinder pushing further than it should, so maybe a bleed would fix it if it doesn't fix itself within 500 miles of break-in. I got 300 to go. Let's hope it isn't.

Sounds like a clutch master cylinder issue, or TOB/Slave problem. Every Spec clutch I have driven engagement point is near the top.

That's funny. My stage II grabs a few inches off the floor, closer to the floor than the resting position. If I hold in the pedal forever, the clutch point actually gets closer to the floor, but never to the point where the car starts to creep away.

So it contacts most of the way up and full engagement is at the top. I guess, then, that's because carbon is much stiffer than "heavy woolen organic thread" and if it contacted any further down the pedal wouldn't go to the top anyway.

The rattle seems to be the infamous Getrag rattle.

Now that it's broken in I can say this clutch is much stronger than the stock one. I gave it a tough running yesterday and it didn't care. It just hooked and grabbed like it was nothing. However, I modified my shift habits to reduce the chance of excess wear happening again.

You know, for a "good" car it seems to have a lot of issues.

Why can't my car STAY fixed?

Guess what's now happening to my clutch!
