i have an 02 sunfire with 130k on it but i had the engine replaced at 67k. so the new engine has about 63k. i was driving home from work and i pulled into my apartments i heard a knock, almost like a rod knock. no ses engine light is on but it is quite noisey at about 2k rpms. i was told maybe it could be a flat cam lobe. does anbody have any suggestions as to what it could be?

^^^ what I was thinking.

Nothing sounds quite like a rod knock.

If it sounds like a rod knock.. chances are its a rod knock.

Flat cam lobe? WTF dont listen to that guy.

post a vid..... if it's a rod knock..... at least 70% or so of us on this site will recognize the sound emediatly.

Do yourself a favor and check your spark plugs. Had "rod knock" on our boosted dually and it just ended up being a fouled out plug or two.

i first engine i blew up with a 75 shot of nos in the 1/4 mile, i ran a 14.3 that was sweet. then i got the engine replaced under warranty. i pulled the valve cover off this morning and checked the cams, all look great. i am pulling the oil pan tonight or tomorrow. will let u guys know what i find but i think it is a rod bearing.

well today i drained the oil and it was dirty, then it turned silver. i pulled the oil pan and found some small metal shavings it. i am pulling the connecting rod caps off in the morning, hopefully the crank isn't scored. i hope i can just get away with replacing the connecting rod bearings.
