GUIDE - Steering Wheel Hub Wiring

STICKY IF APPLICABLE

FOR: 1987 Chevrolet Cavalier RS (I have a wagon, but should be same wiring on most RS models eh?)

Not sure where this belongs, but since I disassembled my Steering Wheel Hub recently, and chopped off the Lighting Wires, I figured I would break the question of which wire does what. So, after about 1 hour of studying the contacts on the switch inside, I have come up with a pretty good idea of what is what.

- Correct me if something is wrong! -

Wire Codes in Steering Wheel (Turn Signals)
Quote:

WHITE - Brake Relay
PURPLE - Flasher Relay
YELLOW - Driver Side Rear Stop Light
GREEN - Passenger Side Rear Stop Light
CYAN - Driver Side Front Turn Signal
BLUE - Passenger Side Front Turn Signal

BLACK - ?? HORN ?? (Switching Means \ Relay Ground)

Wire Connections when Turn Signal is ON for LEFT\RIGHT\FLASHERS and BRAKES
Quote:

NORMAL POSITION (when Turn Signal is NOT IN USE and FLASHERS are OFF)
White -> Green & Yellow (this is so your Stop Tail Lights light up when pressing on the brake)

LEFT TURN SIGNAL
White -> Green (so your Pass. Side Rear Stop Tail Light still lights up when pressing on the brake)
Purple -> Yellow & Cyan

RIGHT TURN SIGNAL
White -> Yellow (so your Driver Side Rear Stop Tail Light still lights up when pressing on the brake)
Purple -> Green & Blue

HAZARD\FLASHERS (I have no clue but this is my assumption)
White -> Green & Yellow (cuz you still need your brake lights to STAY LIT when you press on the brake)
Purple -> Blue, Green, Cyan, Yellow

If there are any errors, MY BAD. Just wanted to share my knowledge with the rest of the JBody Crew - mayhaps this is something someone has been looking for?

I hope this was as informative to you all as it was to me.
Later I will have a schematic on how to transform your normal turn signal assembly on your steering column into TWO SWITCHES!!! I'm not sure if any of you care to do that, but I've allways wanted to transform most of my electronic equipment in my old wagon into ALL SWITCHES for some odd reason.

Meh... I guess I just love Switches lol!

Peace out JBO Crew!
