I just got myself an 89 Cav that has a 94 3.1L in it off of a friend of my dad. I have taken this car to my mechanics to get certified and he is telling me that the Front Frame Extension Arms on the left and right side are rotted out and will need repair/replacement, he couldnt quote it because they dont do body/frame work there, I am just trying to get a gauge on how bad this fix could be. I know it is very variable depending on how bad the rust is but i am trying to figure out if this is something like a $500~ job or if this is going to be like $2,000 has anyone ever had to have this part repaired and if so what ballpark am I talking about to fix it. I would take it to a body shop but since the car is 'unfit' I cant drive it around to shops, and i dont want to tow it around just to find out it isnt worth it. Any help would be appreciated.
Best thing will be to replace both front frame extensions, find out whatīs their price new or from a junkyard then just ask the shops around how much for replacing them, I donīt think you have to take the car for that. I believe they will have to disassemble all the front of the car sort off then cut the rotten extensions, weld the new ones and put all back together so it wonīt be cheap.Good luck.
front frame extension? i don't know what that is.

Subframe or control arms... pick one
Either way.. it's cheaper if you can find good parts in a wrecking yard and do the work yourself. No shop has ever been cheaper than DIY.
