first question my car keeps throwing exhaust codes i have after market headers cat and mufflers is there a thing to clear the check engine light from all exhaust codes a guy said they make things for the computer to clear all exhaust codes because im tired of using a obd and deleting them one by one DTC P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency DTC P0422 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1 and second question want to paint stock taillights do u need to have ure reverse light visible for inspection i live pa and how much brake light need to be seen is there a law about that
1st thing, punctuate!
As for clearing codes, just disconnect the negative at the battery for a few minutes then reconnect it. That will clear the codes, at least for a while, but if you are having to clear the codes alot, then you should look into getting the problem fixed. The P0420 could be a bad rear O2 sensor, the 1st code could be the front sensor going bad. But since you replaced the cat with an aftermarket, you may just be SOL, since often high-flow aftermarket cats can make the PCM think something is up. There is a trick that you can do to fool it, get a couple of those spark-plug anti-foulers at the parts store, you'll have to drill one out and retap it if I remember right, then screw those into the cat where the rear sensor goes, then screw in the sensor to that, that will get the sensor out of the exhaust stream and give it a bit more time to get a true reading of whats going on, and hopefully keep the code from returning.
Another thing that COULD be causing the O2 sensor codes is that your front sensor may not be getting warm enough (I'm assuming its further downstream from the head than stock). Theres a post on these forums that details putting in a heated O2 sensor in the front that addresses that. Its an easy enough swap.
Can't help you with your taillight question, as I live in Oklahoma, no inspections here. But DOT has regulations somewhere that specify a certain amount of visible light from the brakes, not sure about backup lights though.
