Considering a switch to synthetic

2002 Cavalier 2.2OHV, i've done religious oil changes since about 35k when i met my g/f. It currently has 91-92k, no leaks and doesn't burn a drop between changes. I run Mobil1 in my other cars, and would like to switch this over to Mobil1 since i can get the 5qt jug for $22 at wal-mart . Does the OHV respond poorly in any way to synthetic? I was poking around on here and someone said mobil1 is a bad choice, but i think that was for a 2.4. What is the real answer? Also, 91k on the original auto tranny fluid, should i have it changed? I'm hesitant to mess with it at such a high mileage. The car has been driven 80-90% highway its entire life also. It shifts as good as it did at 35k.

90k on the tranni fluid?!?! Yeah, get that flushed.

Switching to synthetic will not harm the engine. Just switch.
