I'm just looking for a little insite from you guys. I got a 04 Sunfire and this morning my cousin was following me and he realized that everytime I shifted I was burning oil. Not real sure on what it would be, so like I said just looking for some insite.
And why do you think you were burning oil? A small poof of black smoke when shifting or getting on it is pretty common and normal. Now a continuous cloud of blue smoke would be more of a concern.
If its black smoke, its fuel, blue is oil, white is either wator vapor (in cold weather) or burnt coolant (especially if it smells sweet).
If your blowing bue-ish smoke a little everytime you shift, it means your piston rings are worn (you probably need to add oil a few times between changes right?). It's not a big deal as long as it's not alot of smoke are very dark. Go buy some "engine restorer", and add it so your oil. It comes in a silver pop top can, and is desinged to help refreshion your cylinder walls and raise compression back up. If the problem isn't bad yet it should help. Also pusing the gas pedal to the floor will make it worse, take it easy for awhile.
If it's blue smoke after the car is warmed up it could be a catalytic converter acting up...check your exhaust outlet pressure.
It was a little puff of blue smoke. It really hasn't been using much oil, maybe half a quart between each change. Thanks for the idea's guys.
alright well what if it doesnt smoke during normal driving but once when u get on it and in the upper Rpms near Redline it starts to blow heavy blue
