squirrely steering
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 5:33 PM
I'm hoping someone can clue me in as to why my steering is so squirrely. It's not terrible at lower speeds but during highway travel the slightest movement in the steering wheel causes the car to lurch to that side. If I wiggle the wheel back slightly the whole car starts rocking. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Amos

Get your alignment checked. sounds to me like the toe angle is off. Toe-in = / \ when looking from the top of the suspension down, toe-out = \ /, the slashmarks represent your tires.

Have you rotated your tires lately?
Sounds almost like a radial ply problem.
Remeber ratate radial L front to L R...no crossovers.
Also, depending on the age of your Cav, check for steering rack pinion gear recall notice....could be part of the problem.

Directional radials? Yes. Every single radial under the sun? No. If the tread is not directional, a standard cross rotation is what is called for.
