Hey all,
Lately, when I make a right hand turn (usually happens only when I turn the wheel all the way), I get this bang sound from under the dash/hood area, sometimes it can be a bit loud - usually only makes 1 sound. When I turn the wheel back after turning, no sound comes. I only get this sound when I turn the wheel all the way to the right, when I turn it to the left I hear nothing.
I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue, before I bring my car in.
Chris
my guess is front strut mounts. I had the same symptoms, banging noise when I turned all the way to one side.
I'd guess it would be the strut mounts as well. If not check the boots on your CV joints!
Intermediate steering shaft, got love GM, they had lube kit for these, now they have an updated shaft, mine did the same thing up until they pack it full of lube. i think Alont gave link for the gm tsb on it.
so I have a good trusted mechanic... what should I tell hm to do?
Have him check the Intermediate steering shaft, and see if he can lube it, thats probably the source of the noise. I'd start there first, cause the lube kit is like 12.00 bucks thru GM.
which is the intermediate steering shaft ?
do you mean the universal shaft from the end of the column down to the top of the rack assembly ??
i am a mechanic i work on cars like this all the time but i dont know exactly for sure which part you guys are talking about
never came across this issue in any car so far that i can recall and weve worked on billions,
must be a very uncommon issue
thanks!

Well,
if it's uncommon there are 11 TSB's listed in the link,
for the Sunfire, alone.
