radiator fan off

97 2.4l. so my engine is overheating a tad. id say about around 200-210. mostly when at stop lights and also when cruising at high speeds such as 70 or above. i dont mean getting on it either, just simply cruising at the same constant speed it will overheat but will cool back to normal when i come back to a cruise around 60 or lower. ive checked my fan while eninge was overheating and the fan isnt on. it doesnt come on when the air is on either. i can spin it and it appears to spin fine. what could be the probelm? or what should i try first?

Could have a problem with youre fan relay switch, To test it, Just get a piece of speaker or 14 gauge piece of wire run it to the battery, If youre fan turns on, Youre fan relay is no good. It needs replacing, It would be a good idea to replace youre thermostat, Coolant flush as well, If you havent done that.

Good Luck.

where exactly do you put the wires?

since it also overheats when cruising at 70. would that mean it is the fan even though i can spin it with my hand? or could it be a sensor?

Well blink , Youre gonna need to add youre speaker wire or also called a jump wire, You are gonna want to add the jump wire directly to the fan, Just unplug the wiring harness fromt the fan assembly, Run the wire directly to the battery to fan, If the fan kicks on youre fan relay is no good. I would also take look at youre rad hoese could have a leak or colasped hose.

GoodLuck.

what about the fact that it does cool off when cruising anywhere from 50-65 but it overheats if i cruise at 70 or above.

Weird thing... a clogged radiator may cause overheating at hi speed but seems that you may have two problems, first the fan that does not come on when it should, check the relay as was said before, also the connector to the fan motor and its wires and the motor itself, if all is ok, your coolant temp sensor may be dead or its wiring faulty and not sending the signals to the PCM to turn on or off the cooling fan. Second, the overheating at stop lights and at 70mph, here the radiator, thermostat, water pump and hoses have to be checked.
Do you find traces of coolant somewhere?

no traces of coolant. wires and hoses look ok.

ok so i tried the battery thing. or atleast i think i did it right, and no it didnt come on. also change my ect and it seems that it only overheats when stoped now and not also when going fast. co9uld also be due to a cooler day. so does it mean the fan is bad? or just the fan motor? when i spin it with my hand it seems to spin fine. should i replace just the motor? the whole thing?

It be cheaper to replace just the motor....take it out and check it thoroughly, what wears out are the brushes, so you could open it and make an autopsy.

Did you check the fuse for the fan motor that is in the engine bay? If not check it. If ok probably a bab fan motor.

im guessing our fan motors are without a/c.. its just the motor right?

ok well i just changed my coolant fan relay which is in the engine bay fuse box and my fan motor (walready changed the ect a day ago). still isnt coming on. whats left besides the radiator and the waterpump? and is there anyway to decide which it is?

Take out the cooling fan and shroud, only 4 bolts and the connector if I remember right. To be on the safe side test again the old motor applying two wires a positive and a negative from the battery if itīs dead go get a new one and swap the blade and shroud.

Ya im having the same problem, there is a trace of coolant, but thats from a worn hose and its leaking a little bit. If you find the problem let me know

Check the Fuse!... So ive been told the fuse will blow if there is too much resistance in the fan motor.
