Water Pump Replacement Tips 2.4L
Friday, May 04, 2007 10:17 PM
Well today decided it was time to change the water pump as my car has been sitting on the street for 3 months, originally was going to just part the car out, but decided i could spend some money and replace the pump. I know it is a huge PITA, but does anyone have any tips to make the process easier. I already have the header off of the block, and to the part which needs to remove the timing chain housing. Does anyone have any tips to make that process easier?

Any help would be great!!!

Thanks

Put a piece of wood under the engine and transmission, support the weight of the motor with a floor jack (don't LIFT the car tho)... then take off the upper and lower engine mounts. You'll want to jack it up a bit to access the 10mm bolts on the timing chain housing cover.... and the 3 lower mount plate to block bolts (19mm). I also clean off the oil from the chain links and the crank/cam gears so I know where it was lined up... because the timing sucks if you're not 100% sure of where they go. Lots of people mess it up, and it's a pain in the arse to take it apart to move the chain one tooth.

I usually do an oil change at the same time.... get the engine nice and hot, throw some Engine Flush in, run for a few minutes... then drain it hot, so you don't have oil coming all over you when you do get it apart. The trick is to remember to put oil back in, before you start it up
