i have a 5sp offf a 2.2 OHV i was told a 2.2 2.8 and 3.1 bolt to the tranny and are pretty much bolt ins in the car soooo i was wondering do i have a use a 88-94 3100 or can i use a 95 and new 3100?

i can get a newer style 3100 for free this is why im curious


its a 94 Pontiac sunbird had a 2.0OHC 5sp swapped to 2.2 5sp and 2.2 melted pistons to blow so im just wondering if the newer 3100s will work in the car with just the computer wiring harness no rewiring of the dash and such.. thanks

If its the Getrag tranny (2000+) I believe it will bolt to any GM 60 degree engine, which includes the 3.1.

its the 2.2 part thats the magical number. the ln2 shares the same bolt pattern as the 60* v6.


as for being a direct bolt-in.... not even close. look on here for a member by the name of raven. also, in the third gen forum i believe is a v6 swap thread.
