has anyone ever removed the subframe? i got in an accident awhile back and im told i need a subframe i found one for 100.00 but the guy wants 250 to put it on so how difficult is it? im assuming the most difficult part is with the steering? removing control arms and such shouldnt be too bad. Anyway whos done this?
i just bought my car but removed the subframe to swap in new motor its not hard at all 2 1/2 inch bolts for the sway bar and 6 for the subframe i got them out with a 5/8 sock but their metric like 18 or 17 mm and the u have 2 bolts that remove the A arm so u can put it on the new subframe and its the same for each side of the car and it will fall right out and u might have a tranny mount on the o my 94 has it on the driver side that bolts to the motor other than that it just falls right down i use a jack to hold the weight till im ready to drop it on each side
hope this helps if u want me to explain further rammin_it04@hotmail.com ill try and explain further into it
thx for insight have u actually done it on a 3rd gen jbody tho?..
im aware of the a arm bolts etc..
my biggest concern would be the steering rack being attached to it and unbolting it i have no idea how to go about that
steering wrack should bolt up to the strut its a crowned bolt probaly... oh i cant remember what size but its got a cotter pin u pull out then loosen bolt but leave the bolt on a few threats sick like a peice of paper towl in a short socket and use a hammer to knock the end of the tierod up a bit to loosen it so that way u wont wreck the tierod or the threads of it
the paper towl peice is to just to hold the socket to the bolt so u dont smash fingers
that would be the end tie rod the actual rack bolts to the subframe im almost positive
bump...
anyhelp with steering rack coming off subframe??
