Convertible top part number?
Thursday, April 19, 2007 7:55 PM
I have a 97 cavalier convertible and need to know what the part number or at least what the part is called that the top is stapled to by the trunk. That large plastic bar going all around the trunk area. thanks!

I found out what the part numbers are

12365697

12365696

that is for both the left and right side. The dealership I went to told me it would be 60 bucks a side which is BS! ITS A PIECE OF PLASTIC! I am lookin on the net for cheaper pricing

I was going to shoot you another e-mail today and warn you about that tack strip... When I did mine it was broke into 8 pieces.

You'll have to drill out some rivets and then rivet the new ones in place but you'll be glad you did.

yea, I called a convertible place and they said they usually use 1" rubber but I said screw it, and I just ordered it, it should be here shortly, sucks tho, I wanted to get this done tomorrow. Oh well.

The whole reason why the top started leaking was because that piece broke and flipped up outside the metal retainer. Whatever, the white top was gay! Rockin it Lenko style now. Red cav and black top. Where the hell are you supposed to use those blocks I cut? Looks like I could just throw the new top on now problems with a lil glue.

You have to use those blocks to make sure you get proper spacing on the top bows and don't have to much (or to little) tension on the top after install. Did you get a Supplement Manual yet? Maybe an upholstery shop that does convertible tops can copy a set of instructions for you.

I can try to scan and e-mail them but it's going to be a huge file.

if you wouldn't mind, I would appreciate it. I could paypal you some cash for your inconvenience. The only shops around here are over an hour away! Sucks. All the auctions I saw were ending in a few days. I don't have a few days. My girls other car is gettin repoed in like 8 days! gotta get this done!

I was wrong on the staple size the other day they are 3/8 wide and 5/16 long. SORRY. I'll try to get these scanned and e-mailed.

Yeah, I kinda figured the width was wrong cause I couldn't find any staplers that could use 1" wide staples. No biggie. This 1200 dollar car is costing me a fortune!

clutch replaced
flywheel machined
cooling system drained
upholstery shampooed
oil change
tranny fluid changed
new plugs
new top with glass and defogger
them damn retainers!!!!
grrrr.......!!!!!

on top of that I am afraid to put the system in it cause I don't want the top to be cut into or the system stolen!

Yea, definitely putting the alarm system on it. I have a compustar, I can probably get a prox. Sensor for it. That's a good idea. I don't plan on subs for it, the gf would rather have the trunk space, but I have really good interior speakers and an AVIC deck. That is why I am worried. Prox sensor is definitely on my list tho! Good call!

the instructions say that they are generic and it may vary from different car manufacturers and to "pay attention to the lil things."

I thought it was real gay, and I was kinda pissed.
