are you talking about the connector rod bearing. if so i did that to mine but i just scrapped the motor cause its had over 230k on it. just call around and ask is all. call gm though first cause then you'll ge the highest quote and know what to expect. and its probably easier then a head gasket as all you'd do is drop the oil pan essentials and its all right there.

replace all bearings not just one. Harder because you'll want to take the motor out and put it on a stand to ease thebearing install

Rod bearing? Oh-oh... you may be in deeper than you think. I went through this on my '94 S-10 when I got it only to learn that was the final stop of the problem that started when the previous owner's mechanic did a timing chain replacement and forgo fishing the tensioner fragments out of the oil pan. Mind you this engine's oiling passage routes haven't changed since it was 1.8L in '82! In short, the hydraulic lifters and cam bearings have priority oiling a.k.a.: are feed oil first. This left me with a constant lifter/cam bearing knock for a good while, until the lifters collapsed and seized in their bores leaving me short one operable vehicle and needing a new long block (They were only available to me that way). So if you think it's bad, expect worse!

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
