I just did a bottom end swap from a 98 cavalier 2.4L to a 2000 cavalier 2.4L.
I noticed that the knock sensor is a different size so I purchased a 2000 knock sensor and put it into the block. Now the problem is I have 2 wires off of the new sensor and 1 wire off of the old harness.
Is there one wire I can hook up from the knock sensor to the existing one wire on the harness and ignore the other wire?
Any help would be appreciated on this here. Really wanting to get the CEL off of my car.
Thanks Luke
Also I did do a search but no straight forward answer I was looking for.
Ya I have the same problem, I'm trying to swap a new motor into my 99 Z also with a 2.4L. I got an engine yesterday from a salvage yard that runs and has decent kms on it. But it was a bit diff. The exhaust manifold had a diff shaped flange on it, which was no big deal as i just swapped my old one, but the bigger differences I noticed are that the knock sensors are different, and the one on the 99 has 2 wires, where as the one that came on the engine i got yesterday has only 1, and the bolt sizes are different on them. Also, it looks like the engine I got has an exhaust gas recirculation thing or something like that going to the intake where my old engine did not have that.
Is there any solution to the knock sensor problem that's somewhat easy? Also I just planned on putting my old intake manifold on and not worrying about the exhaust thing as it appears the place where it's bolted on on my old block is just open. Will this work?
I'm not sure if there are any other sensors that I'm going to have to swap over or not.
Ok Luke. There has been info posted on the ORG (I looked for it a little) about moving wiring pins for the knock sensor's. Not 100% this will work. I have done the same swap you have done and what we did was drilled out the hole for the knock sensor and tapped it for the bigger knock sensor you car came with stock. It is easy to do, and there is info on the size in the performance section.
Rewandy5, put your orginal intake manifold on. As for the knock sensor issue, you might be able to find the wiring pins and move them and connect the main signal wire (I have not done this and do not know if it works for sure). It should. There was posted pin outs somewhere on the ORG. Someone else might be able to help more.

Ok what I ended up doing for my problem is using a bolt about the same size as the sensor, drilling out and tapping a 5/16" hole inside the larger bolt and making kind of a sleeve. It was a bit extensive, but i think it should work. It snugged the old knock sensor up perfectly anyways.
