Hopefully someone will have the answer I need.
1995 Cavalier LS convertible 2.3L engine. The engine is full of oil according to the dipstick reading. The red idiot light comes on for the oil when I get on the brakes hard.
The idiot light never comes on at idle speed or at any other time, just when I get on the brakes hard and the light goes out when I back of the brakes.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Vic
you should get an oil pressure gauge. the light comes on when you have NO oil pressure, if that is the case something is going to wreck, but if it is not knocking yet, it sounds like a wiring/sensor issue, but get a cheap oil pressure gauge on it and double check.
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
That's a very good suggestion ge_forcez22
I'll look into it. Thanks a lot.

Okay the light comes on when oil pressure is below 5psi, on GMs, not zero, at zero the engine would have be toast, at 5psi it is close.
If your going to use a gauge, you need a special socket to remove the sending unit, where you plug the pressure gauge into.

read the owners manual, mine says the oil light coming on under hard braking for a few seconds is normal its just hte oil sloshing away from the pickup
I guess i will be considering adding an oil pressure gauge (should have one anyway) cause I am having a similar problem but only on hard left turns. I thought that it could be because of where the pickup is located but idk. Now yesterday the guy at the oil place showed me that some of the oil grayed out and he said that it was from metal shavings. I'm concerned about this...(don't mean to hijack but it's oil pressure related)...
Has anyone else had this problem? WTF can I do to solve it? Should I be watching my oil level better?
later...(I'll fix my sig soon...damn)
