Problems adding coolant to a Sunfire.....
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 7:14 PM
My 1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT has been needing some coolant so I was going to put some in (the first time I have had to since I bought the car) and when I took off the cap from the reservoir, there was another black cap that was over the hole itself..stuck very tightly onto the hole...I didn't want to pry it off without checking on here first to see if that is normal or if the cap might be falling apart....

Thats no normal, It could be that black part is part of the actual cap (probably broke off). Make sure your car is cool, and pull it out with a tweezer. Buy a new one. Remeber to fill at the points: full hot (is when your car is hot), full cold (is when your car is cold).

the 99 sunfire i used to have did that to me. if i remember correctly (this was prob 5 years ago) i used a pair of plyers to unscrew the part that was in the tank, then i think i got the 2 pieces to snap back together. however it did it again next time, so buying a new cap is your overall best bet.
